Ethelyn Vonnahme 1919-2007
Ethelyn Vonnahme, 88, of Mallard died Sunday, December 23, 2007, at the Emmetsburg Care Center in Emmetsburg.
Funeral services for Mrs. Vonnahme were Friday, Dec. 28, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mallard. The Rev Edmund Tiedeman officiated.
Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Mallard.The Harris Funeral Home of Mallard was in charge of arrangements.
Casket bearers were Dennis Vonnahme, Pat McCartan, Matt McCartan, Ryan Vonnahme, Pat Vonnahme and Zach Eichmeier.
Ethelyn Wolterman Vonnahme was born March 2, 1919 on the family farm near Breda, the daughter of John and Anna (Ocken) Wolterman. She attended the Breda Catholic School and when she was old enough, she worked for other people doing domestic chores.
On Sept. 1, 1942, she was married to Lawrence Vonnahme at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda. The couple made their first home in Mount Carmel before moving to a farm near Mallard in 1947. Ethelyn was a homemaker and raised three sons. In 1977, the couple moved into Mallard. Lawrence died June 24, 1990.
Ethelyn was a member of the Christian Mothers, enjoyed golfing, belonged to two card clubs and crocheted afghans for each of her grandchildren. Ethelyn moved to the Emmetsburg Care C enter in Emmetsburg in 2005 and resided there until her death.
Survivors include her sons and their wives: Bob and Betty Vonnahme of Havelock, Ken and Diane Vonnahme of Shakopee, Minn and Dan and Darla Vonnahme of Algona; grandchildren: Jerry McCartan, Dennis Vonnahme, Shelley Mancilla, Alicia Eichmeier, Sara, Pat and Amber Vonnahme; 13 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Dorothy Tranter and brother-in-law Mervin Klaus.
Ethelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lawrence, brothers Roy, Moran and Merle Wolterman and sisters Leola Wittry, Bernice and Mercedes Wolterman.
