Darrell R. Reeves 1945-2007
GRAETTINGER — Funeral service for Darrell R. Reeves of Graettinger was Friday, Nov. 30, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger. Pastor Tedd Rieke officiated.
Burial was in Valley View Cemetery, Graettinger. Military rites were conducted at the grave site by members of Nelson-Christensen Post 162 American Legion of Graettinger
Mr. Reeves died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007, at his home in Graettinger, at the age of 62.
Darrell Richard Reeves, the son of John and Marie (Anderson) Reeves, was born July 5, 1945, in Emmetsburg. He received his education in the Graettinger schools where he graduated from Graettinger High School in 1964.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. After his honorable discharge from military service he was employed in Arlington, VA, in wholesale plumbing and heating. Later he returned to Graettinger and owned and operated his own plumbing and heating business for many years. Darrell also served as Mayor of Graettinger.
Darrell was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He enjoyed Civil War history and was an avid Viking's Fan. He also enjoyed hanging out at the Poor Man's Saloon and most important was spending time with his grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared Darrell's life are his children, David Reeves and his wife, Kelly of Worthington, MN; Kurt Reeves and his special friend, Elizabeth of San Diego, CA; Royce Sampson and his wife, Jenny of Savage, MN; and Rachel and Meaghan Reeves of Alta; six grandchildren; his mother, Marie Reeves of Graettinger; brothers and sisters, Butch Reeves and his wife, Carol of Columbus, NE; Donna Merkel of Kansas City, KS; Jo Ann Vander Vorste and her husband, Don of Graettinger; Mitze Freund and her husband, Steve of Des Moines; and Diane Reeves of Ottumwa.
Darrell was preceded in death by his father, John.
