Lloyd L. Lund 1921-2007
Funeral service for Lloyd Lund of Emmetsburg is 10:30 a.m. today, Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. David A. Morris will officiate.
Burial will be in the Laurens Cemetery at Laurens. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Lund died Friday, Nov. 23, 2007, at Hilltop Center in Spirit Lake. He was 86.
Lloyd Lester Lund was born Oct. 23, 1921, in Lamberton, MN, the son of Lyman Bailey and Iris Hazel (Siddall) Lund.
On April 3, 1942, Lloyd Lund and Helen M. Hansen were married in Laurens. The couple farmed until November 1942 when Lloyd enlisted in the Army Air Corps as an Aviation Cadet. He flew 22 combat missions. Lloyd was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal and Oak Leaf Cluster for his meritorious service, ETO and World War II Victory medals.
After the war, Lloyd and Helen farmed near Laurens from 1946 to 1948 when they moved to a farm they purchased near Cylinder. The couple retired in 1984 and moved to Emmetsburg on May 30, 1999. Helen passed away in February 2005. Lloyd moved to Hilltop Center in Spirit Lake in May 2007.
Lloyd had served on the Palo Alto County School Board, the Soil Conservation Board and the Extension Council. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg.
Surviving are his children, Loryl and Mark Winter of Elkhorn,NE, Lonna and Bob Darrah of Spencer, Lois and Larry Shaffer of Spirit Lake and Loreen and Tom Gehl of Omaha,NE; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Also surviving are sisters, Leota Oleson of Laurens and Lucylle Dubbert of Falls Church, VA; and a half sister, Cleo Stover of West Bend.
Mr. Lund was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Helen.
