Harry E. Stowell 1930-2007

Harry Stowell of Ayrshire died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007, at the Emmetsburg Care Center. He was 77.

Funeral service for Mr. Stowell was Saturday, Nov. 24, at the United Methodist Church in Ayrshire. The Rev. Jim Gochenouer officiated.

Burial was in Silver Lake Cemetery, Ayrshire. Military rites were conducted by members of the Ayrshire American Legion. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.

Harry Ellsworth Stowell was born Oct. 20, 1930, in Brocket, ND, the son of Harry Elmer Dahlin and Elizabeth Ellen Fifer. When Harry was age seven, he was adopted by Dean and Jane Stowell. He received his education in Ayrshire and graduated from Ayrshire High School in 1949.

Harry served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. St. Paul CA 73 from June 1949 until June 1950.

On Jan. 31, 1966, Harry Stowell and Janice Brand were married in Sioux Falls, S D. Harry farmed in the area and later worked as an independent carpenter until his retirement. He was a member of the Ayrshire American Legion and past treasurer for the N.F.O.

Survivors include his wife, Janice of Ayrshire; children, Mary Lynne (Lindy) Buren of Sanborn, Harry Eugene (Gene) Stowell of Ames, Virginia Lee (Ginger) Kerr of Hartley and Richard Dean (Rick) Stowell of Gilbert; 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Also surviving are a brother, Jack Stowell of Spirit Lake; and sisters, Doris Englund of St. Cloud, MN and Helen Hauck of New Hope, MN.

Mr. Stowell was preceded in death by his birth parents and his life parents, Dean and Jane Stowell; two brothers, Stanley and Howard Dahlin; and a sister, Dorothy Oihus.
