From the Desk of Public Health
I will say that last week, more than any other since the beginning of this pandemic, was a steep learning curve. Our office has been inundated with phone calls from people wanting to schedule appointments for vaccine, wanting information on the brand that we are receiving (which is Moderna), concerns for allergies and getting the vaccine, people looking to travel and wanting to schedule vaccines around the times when they are home, as well as many other questions. I am glad to hear the number of people that are interested in getting vaccinated as this will hopefully help us reach the end of this pandemic.
Last Thursday, our Public Health office became overwhelmed with phone calls to schedule appointments for the upcoming COVID vaccine clinic and we began to schedule those appointments. We apologize for any frustration from that. Please know we are doing everything we can to ensure that all the doses we receive will be given to those who most need it and fall into the appropriate tiers.
Our office received notice from the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) on Friday that we were going to receive an additional allotment of vaccine. Because of this, appointment times were added to our upcoming clinic. This first clinic will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 9 at the VFW in Emmetsburg. It will be by appointment only as we have scheduled appointments for all doses available.
We anticipate a slow but steady supply through the month of February with some increase in supply in March. As we continue to receive vaccine, clinics will be scheduled in Emmetsburg, Ruthven, West Bend and Graettinger to try to reach as many people as we can.
Continue to know that we understand each of your desires to be vaccinated as quickly as possible and we will continue to hold vaccine clinics until all who want the vaccine have received it.
We ask for grace and patience as we continue to navigate through these unprecedented times. We look forward to the day when vaccine will be plentiful and all who want it will have it. Please stay tuned to the Palo Alto County Health System Facebook page as well as the newspaper for future vaccine clinic dates and vaccine availability updates.
Stay healthy, keep social distancing, wear your mask and stay home when ill.
