VETERANS DAY was observed with a small gathering of veterans at VFW Post #2295 last Wednesday, Nov. 11. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the turnout was limited. Veterans and guests were invited to a morning coffee at the Post Home. One of the morning highlights was a check presentation from the Emmetsburg Student Senate Iowa Lakes Community College. “This is on behalf of all 11 clubs that donated from the Emmetsburg campus of Iowa Lakes Community College,” said Nathan Schneider, president of the Emmetsburg Student Senate. He presented a check for $150, designated for the Veterans Memorial, to be used for holiday wreaths. A second check for $600 was designated for the Freedom Flight fund. Veterans and guests also heard a virtual message from Brig. Gen. Shawn Ford, Iowa Army National Guard, honoring veterans and thanking them for their patriotism, service and sacrifice.
