Villager Telepharmacy to Hold Grand Opening
By Joseph Schany
The Villager Telepharmacy at 105 S. Broadway in West Bend will hold a grand opening on Wednesday, Jan. 15 from 8:00 a.m to 4:00 p.m. Drawings will be held every hour throughout the day and a pharmacist will be on site starting at 1:00 p.m.
Owned and operated by Hughes Healthmart Pharmacy out of Emmetsburg, the Villager Telepharmacy gives the residents of West Bend and the surrounding rural area access to medications without having to travel the 20 or more miles to the closest pharmacy.
“West Bend has been without a pharmacy for some time and Hughes is excited to offer our services,” said Steve Hoymna, co-owner of Hughes Healthmart Pharmacy. “Telepharmacy allows us to be in a smaller town like West Bend and makes it easier for patients to have access to their medications.”
Telepharmacy is the delivery of pharmaceutical care via a telecommunication connection. According to Hoyman, a pharmacy technician on staff at the Villager will run the telepharmacy, connecting to Hughes Healthmart for prescription checks or pharmacist verification, all of which can be completed remotely.
Hoyman said the community’s response to the Villager Telepharmacy has been positive.
“West Bend has been great. They’ve really helped us get off the ground and we appreciate all of their support.”
Hoyman added, “Stop by on Wednesday for treats, drawings, and find out what we do!”
After Wednesday’s grand opening, normal business hours for the Villager Telepharmacy will be Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m.
