With the arrival of Wren James Wirtz, the first baby of the New Year and decade in Palo Alto County on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, let’s look at the last 30 years of first babies born in Palo Alto County.

We might be surprised at what fun facts are found that will surprise us.

The first babies of the New Year for the last 30 years including name and birth date are:

1990s

1990 – Katlin Elizabeth Horsman, born on Jan. 7

1991 Mickey R. Allen, born on Jan. 2

1992 Brittany Rae Frink, born on Jan. 9

1993 Laine Robert Bailey, born on Jan. 5

1994 Kethra Nicole Vandergaast, born on Jan. 5

1995 Jordan Rose Kathman, born on Jan. 5

1996 Mason John Wolff, born Jan. 12

1997 Myles John Laven, born Jan. 2

1998 Laura Ann Manwarren, born Jan. 12

1999 Cody Christian Bargman, born Jan. 5

In the 1990s decade, a total of 175 babies were born, 88 girls and 87 boys. 1990 saw the most babies born with a total of 33, while 1994, 1997, and 1999 only had 12 babies born.

A couple of other interesting fun facts noticed was Jan. 5 saw the most first babies of the new year in this decade with babies being born on Jan. 5 in 1993, 1994, 1995, and 1999.

In 1997, the first nine babies born were boys and four of them were given the name Austin.

2000s

2000 Braden Joseph Sales, Jan. 1

2001 Jacob Thomas Covel, Jan. 2

2002 Bradley James Wirtz, Jan. 4

2003 Brock Kent Grimm, Jr., Jan. 9

2004 Annabelle Rose Myers, Jan. 7

2005 Bryce Ryan Rosacker, Jan. 2

2006 Brooklyn Kylee Naig, Jan. 3

2007 Wesley Hunter Wirtz, Jan. 7

2008 Ian Thomas Roethler, Jan. 2

2009 – Lauren Marie Behrends, Jan. 8

In the 2000s decade, the first 10 years of the 21st century, saw the population of the county increase with 174 new babies, 92 girls and 72 boys. Four years, 2004, 2006, 2007, and 2009, each saw the birth of 21 babies. The year having the lowest number of births was 2001 with only 10 babies being born that year.

Here’s a fun fact that includes the 2020 first baby of the New Year, Wren James Wirtz. Young Wren will have some older cousins to look over him as he is growing up. In 2002, Bradley James Wirtz, Jan. 4, was the first baby and then in 2007, Wesley Hunter Wirtz made his entrance as the first baby on Jan. 7.

2010s

2010 – Christopher Matthew Clark, Jan. 3

2011 – Jerry Thomas Schrieber, Jan. 2

2012 – Lane Aaron Penner, Jan. 3

2013 – Evelyn Raen Iwen, Jan. 1

2014 – Kate Marina Leuga, Jan . 12

2015 – Jalee Lyn Bauer, jan. 7

2016 – Addison Jo Ann Harris, Jan. 5

2017 – Bentley Cole Danner, Jan. 1

2018 – Caiden James Alexander Lynn Cribb, Jan. 3 (6:30 p.m.) and William Lee McGrauth, Jan. 3 ( 11:45 p.m.)

2019 – Tucker Alan Pedersen, Jan. 11

In the 2010s decade, 104 girls were born vs. 66 boys. The girls definitely won this race.

In 2016, the first seven babies born were girls. There were only five boys born that year, giving the girls a definite advantage when they start school.

Also in 2016, Addison Jo Ann Harris was born on Jan. 5 bring the number of births on this date to a total of five over a thirty year period.

In 2018, there were two baby boys born on Jan. 1. Caiden James Alexander Lynn Cribb was born Jan. 3 at approximately 6:30 p.m., while William Lee McGrauth was born Jan. 3 at approximately 11:45 p.m.

Even though Caiden James Alexander Cribb was born approximately five and a half hours before William Lee McGrauth, the distinction of being born on the same day and not being twins is remarkable.

Over the last 30 years 519 babies have been born in Palo Alto County, with 284 girls and 235 boys.

Our first babies of the New Year in Palo Alto County have been born no later than January 12. The 2nd of January has seen the most births with a total of six, followed by the 5th of January with five, the 3rd and 7th of January having four births each.

Following up the birth dates are the 1st and 12th of January with three births each, the 9th of January with two births and finally the 4th, the 8th, and the 11th of January each having one birth.

It didn’t seem that thirty years have gone by since 1990 until I went looking for the first babies of the New Year born in Palo Alto County and yet as I read this article over, it seems like an eternity has passed and I’m not sure where it went.

Congratulations to all the first borns and everyone born in the last 30 years.
