Palo Alto/Emmet Farm Service Agency Update

Producers who suffer livestock death losses are eligible to submit a notice of loss and an application for payment at the FSA office. This notice of loss must be submitted within 30 days of when the loss of livestock is first apparent to the producer.

Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP) provides benefits to livestock producer for livestock deaths in excess of normal mortality caused by blizzard that occurred on April 14, 2018. LIP payments are equal to 75% of the market value on the day before the date of death of the livestock.

Livestock owners should record all pertinent information of livestock deaths from the blizzard. You will also need to certify beginning inventory. Document could include purchase records, vet records, and production records.

Applicants must provide adequate proof that the eligible livestock deaths occurred as a direct result of the blizzard. Adequate death records will also be required such as photographs with date and rendering works receipts.
