School Board Approves Master Contract, Personnel
Meeting in a special session Tuesday morning, the Emmetsburg Community School Board of Directors approved the Master Employment Contract with the Emmetsburg Education Association.
In their initial proposal, presented on March 15, the Emmetsburg Education Association proposed a 2.74 percent total cash wage package with a five-year contract duration. The district countered with a 2.61 percent total cash wage package and a two-year contract duration.
In Tuesday’s meeting, the board approved a base wage proposal for the 2018-19 school year of $34,787, which translates to a $125 increase to the base salary, and a 2.67 percent increase. No changes to the Master Contract language were made, and both groups agreed to continue the development of a District Collaboration Committee.
Finally, the board agreed to a two-year term for the agreement.
“I thought the negotiations went very smoothly,” noted Board President Jane Hoyman. “The teachers were very cost-conscious and gave a great presentation and were very understanding.”
The contract received unanimous approval of all seven board members.
In other business, the board accepted the resignation of Breana Biery from her Middle School Language Arts position.
The board also approved the hiring of John Zauche for the Middle School Band/Vocal position. Zauche comes to Emmetsburg from the West Bend-Mallard District.
