Limited Contests For Primary Elections
There will only be one contested election in the June 5th Primary elections, following the close of filings for elected officials in Palo Alto county offices. The deadline was at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 28.
For the June 5th Primary, the lone contested election will come in County Supervisor District Three, where Democratic Incumbent Supervisor Linus Solberg of Cylinder will be challenged by Democratic candidate Bertha Mathis of Emmetsburg.
On the Republican side of the ticket in Supervisor District Three, Clint Young of Emmetsburg has filed nomination papers to have his name placed on the ballot and is unopposed.
The Board of Supervisors will have two other seats up for election this year, starting with Supervisor District One, where incumbent Supervisor Keith Wirtz of Mallard is running unopposed on the Republican ticket for another term on the board.
Voters in Supervisor District Two will also vote as incumbent Supervisor Craig Merrill of Emmetsburg is also running unopposed for re-election as a Republican candidate to his seat on the board.
Along with the three Supervisor postilions, the offices of County Attorney, County Recorder and County Treasurer are also up for election this year.
For the office of Palo Alto County Attorney, incumbent Peter C. Hart is running unopposed on the Democratic ticket for re-election to another term as the County Attorney.
For County Recorder, incumbent Sue Ruppert is running unopposed for re-election for another term as the Recorder on the Republican ticket.
And for County Treasurer, incumbent Treasurer Robin Jamison is running unopposed for another term on the Republican ticket.
Primary election day will be Tuesday, June 5. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. that day.
