Gerry Horkan: Visiting Irish Dignitary

Saint Pat’s Association of Emmetsburg announced this year’s Irish Dignitary: Gerry Horkan. Horkan is a Fianna Fail Senator based in South Dublin. He is a chartered accountant with a Masters in Accounting and a Bachelors degree in Commerce from University College Dublin. He was elected to the senate in April 2016. Horkan is also the chair of a secondary school board of management in a south Dublin school with approximately 500 pupils.

Gerry Horkan will arrive in Des Moines on Tuesday, March 13. He will spend the morning of the 14th touring the Capitol before coming to Emmetsburg where members of Saint Pat’s Association and Miss Shamrock will welcome him to town.

The official meet and greet for Horkan will be held on Thursday, March 15 from 3:30 p.m.- 5:30 p.m. at the Saint Pat’s Association store. The public is welcome to attend and spend a little time getting to know Horkan. He will also attend Chamber Coffee on Friday, March 16 from 9:30-10. At 10:00 Horkan will leave for a tour of the Emmetsburg Schools. He will also be available at many of the public St. Pat’s functions.

Horkan will start the O’Round the Lock Run and ride in the 56th annual St. Patrick’s Parade on Saturday. He will participate in the Gathering of the Clans at the Fire Hall later in the day.

Horkan is passionate about family and community, “For me, individuals, families, and communities are the bedrock of society,” Horkan commented. “I look forward to my upcoming visit to Emmetsburg.”
