Emmetsburg Duo To All State Festival

A pair of Emmetsburg High School musicians have earned the highest individual honor available to Iowa high school musicians by being selected as members of the 2017 Iowa All State Chorus and All-State Orchestra. Emaray Schnell and Yihoon Shin will both participate in the All State Festival, which takes place Nov. 17-18 at Hilton Coliseum at Iowa State University in Ames. This is the third consecutive year Emmetsburg High School has sent musicians to the All State Festival, and the first year for a member in the All State Orchestra.

Emaray is the daughter of Travis and Brook Hayenga and Yihoon is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Hojin Shin and Gloria Lee of Emmetsburg. Yihoon studies violin with Dr. Jonathan Sturm.

The 2017 All State Music Festival will celebrate the 71st anniversary of this prestigious event. District Auditions for the 281-piece All-State Band, 201-piece All-State Orchestra, and 601-member All-State Chorus were held Saturday, October 21, at Storm Lake, Hampton, Independence, Atlantic, Indianola, and Washington. Approximately 17 percent of the students who audition are selected for membership in the All-State ensembles. Participants will rehearse in Ames on Friday and Saturday, November 17 and 18, with the Festival Concert being presented to the public at 7:30 P. M. in Hilton Coliseum, Iowa State University, Ames, on Saturday evening, November 18, 2017.

Iowa Public Television will record the concert for re-broadcast. Please check the IPTV website (www.iptv.org) for the exact dates and times. This program is under the auspices of the Iowa High School Music Association and the Iowa Music Educators Association.

All seats for the Festival concert are are reserved. There are two methods that tickets may be obtained for the Iowa All-State Festival Concert:

Method 1: ISU Athletics Ticket Office. The ISU Athletics Ticket Office is located on the west side of the Jacobson Athletic Building in Ames and is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There will be a handling fee for each ticket.

Method 2: Ticketmaster – Orders may be placed by phone (1-800-745-3000), online

(www.ticketmaster.com), or at any Iowa Ticketmaster outlet (on sale October 24, 2017 at 10:00 AM) Ticketmaster will charge a per-ticket convenience fee.
