GOOD FRIDAY RIDE -- Palo Alto County Pony Express Riders canvassed eight communities on their Good Friday Ride, accepting donations to help support Camp Sunnyside, The riders and their support vehicles are pictured coming through Emmetsburg on Highway 4/18 just before noon on Friday. Donations accepted during the day were:?Ruthven $399.17; Mallard $135; Cylinder $122; Curlew $102; Graettinger $876.50; Emmetsburg $693.11; West Bend $528.02; Ayrshire, $197; and, Whittemore $688.68. Riders mounted their horses at 7 a.m. to begin their mile-by-mile ride through Palo Alto County communities to collect donations.
Each year, the Pony Express Riders of Iowa ask for and receive donations of many kinds for the different activities held to raise money for Easter Seals Camp Sunnyside. Throughout the year, Palo Alto County Pony Express collected $10,000 to help support Camp Sunnyside. For 50 years the Pony Express Riders of iowa have dedicated their effort to provide greater opportunities for Iowans with disabilities. A group of 20 Palo Alto County riders began their mile-by-mile relay ride to Camp Sunnyside on Friday morning. They stayed the night in Jefferson and continued their ride to the John Deere plant in Ankeny on Saturday morning where they met with other riders from across the state.
