Family Homeless After Early-Morning Blaze
A Graettinger man and his children escaped serious injuries after a fire caused extensive fire and smokedamage to their home early Friday, Feb. 10.
John Holmes was able to evacuate his children to a neighboring house after he discovered the fire around 2:25 a.m. in the home at 306 West Robbins Avenue in Graettinger.
The Graettinger Fire Department responded to find flames shooting out of the upstairs windows on the south side of the house and heavy smoke pouring from the structure.
Ambulance personnel transported Holmes and his children to Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville to be checked for smoke inhalation.
Firefighters were on the scene over two hours battling the fire, which was believed to be electrical in nature,
The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
