St. Pat’s Annual Shamrock Pageants
It’s time for contestants for 2017 Miss Shamrock Pageant and Junior Miss Pageant to submit their registrations.
The annual Junior Miss Pageant and the Miss Shamrock Pageant will be held Sunday, March 12, at 3 p.m. at Emmetsburg High School Auditorium.
Contestant for Miss Shamrock must be a high school junior or senior and a resident of Palo Alto, Kossuth, Emmet, Dickinson, Clay, Buena Vista, Pocahontas or Humboldt county of Iowa.
Each contestant will present a talent segment. Talent may include, but is not limited to, singing, dancing, playing an instrument, prose or acting.
Interviews will be judged on poise, communication, and personality. Casual Wear will be judged on the contestant’s personality, poise on stage, and public speaking abilities. Each contestant will give a short introduction including her age, school, and parents.
Evening Wear is formal attire that represents the contestant’s personality. Judging will be on poise, and personality. Each contestant will be asked an onstage question, to be judged on poise, public speaking, and the ability to answer the question.
The contestant who is crowned Miss Shamrock will be present at functions designated by the St. Pat’s Association throughout the year, whenever it does not conflict with her education.
Deadline to submit applications is Friday, Feb. 17.

The Junior Miss Pageant is divided into three categories: Little Miss Shamrock (ages 5-8), Little Lassie (ages 9-12), and Irish Miss (13 16). The contest is limited to eight entries in each age group.
Deadline to submit entries is 12 noon Tuesday, Feb. 14.
Contestants will be judged in the following areas: pre-pageant interview, talent, overall presentation, and appearance. Contestants that are chosen as queen will also be able to participate in all activities during the St. Patrick’s Celebration and, of course, be a part of Emmetsburg’s famous St. Patrick’s Day parade. Those chosen as queen will also participate in summer parades that are prearranged by the St. Pat’s Association.
