Tuesday Is Election Day

Months of campaigning will come to a head this coming Tuesday, November 8, when the polls are open across the country for the 2016 elections.

Polling locations in Palo Alto County will be open from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Election Day. Voting locations are at the Graettinger Public Library, West Bend Public Library and the county Election Center in Emmetsburg.

Along with the national slate of candidates, local candidates will appear on the ballots in Palo Alto County as well.

There are two contested races on the county ballot. For Supervisor District Three, Republican incumbent Ed Noonan is being opposed by Democratic candidate Roger Faulstick.

In Supervisor District Four, Republican incumbent Ron Graettinger is being opposed by Democratic candidate Richard Prior.

For County Auditor, incumbent Republican Carmen Moser is running unopposed for re-election to her office.

For the office of Palo Alto County Sheriff, incumbent Democrat Lynn Schultes is running unopposed for re-election to his post.

Several non-partisan elections will also be found on the ballots, including threetownship trustees posts.

Voters in Fairfield Township will be asked to vote for two candidates, with incumbent Trustees David Bolte and Mike Fred Reding the announced candidates.

In Silver Lake Township, incumbent candidates Mike Sikora and Gary Garrelts are running for two trustees positions.

Residents of West Bend Township will have incumbent trustees Jerome Kuyper and Dennis Barber as the announced candidates on the ballot.

Voters will be asked to vote for a pair of County Public Hospital Trustees. Incumbent trustees Dawn Schmidt and James Hobart are both running for re-election to the two positions.

A total of three positions are open for Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioners. Incumbent commissioners Joel Horsley and Anita Fisher are joined on the ballot by Michael Gunderson.

For the county Agricultural Extension Council, four seats will be filled. Incumbent council members Sue Haack and John Banwart will be joined on the ballot by Scott Anliker and Nathan Hoffman.

There will also be a vacancy to fill on the Agricultural Extension Council. Appointee Jennifer Hurley is running for election to a full term on the council.
