After a long day at work, one of the simple pleasures in life is to kick back, relax and perhaps enjoy a small libation to unwind. For lots of area residents, that libation often is a beverage of their own creation.

For those who enjoy brewing their own home beverages, 94.1 KEMB-LP is sponsoring the “Keep ‘Em Brewing” event this Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Palo Alto County Fairgrounds in Emmetsburg.

The event will get underway at 3 p.m. with live entertainment being provided by Big Nacho Karaoke from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Open Air Pavilion on the Fairgrounds. While the entertainment is underway, attendees will have the opportunity to partake in tasting of craft beers from Doll Distributing Company. Among the brands of craft beers will be products from August Schell, Summit and Fulton Brewing Companies. The Doll Craft Specialties Tasting event will run from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Fairgrounds. Admission will allow for those of legal age to sample the craft beers and vote for their favorites.

As part of the event, a “Home Brew” contest is also going to take place, with several area home brewers submitting their best work for consideration by a panel of judges. In addition, attendees of the event will be able to cast a “Peoples Choice” award for their favorite home brew during the event.

From 5:30 to 7 p.m., entertainment will be provided by the “TV and the Bellr’d Yellers” in the Open Air Pavilion. The beer garden will be open through the event.

Sponsors for the Keep ‘Em Brewing event on Saturday include Northland Auto and Marine, Beer and Junk: Adventures in Parenting; Young’s Custom Computers, The Reporter and The Democrat Newspapers, Wallace Water Conditioning and Doll Distributing.
