You, Too, Can Be BAD! And Have Fun At The Same Time!
Despite what you hear in the national news, sometimes, being bad can be just a whole lot of fun. In fact, for the 17th year, being BAD is your ticket to an afternoon of fun, fellowship and a little golf all mixed into one event.
2016 marks the 17 th year that the Emmetsburg Chamber of Commerce has sponsored its annual B.A.D. Golf event. This year’s event, planned for Monday, July 18, will once again provide attendees with the perfect opportunity to gather at the Five Island Golf Club to start off the week on a positive note with a round of fun, fellowship and some golf tossed in the mix. The only requirement is that all participants must promise to be BAD – and have a good time with it!
Now, don’t let the name fool you however – BAD Golf stands for Business Appreciation Day. And the event is open to golfers of all skills and abilities, or folks who want to be golfers and have some fun for an afternoon.
The BAD Golf tournament is a nine-hole, best-shot format with numerous prizes being awarded. The proceeds from this 17 th edition will be donated to Emmetsburg’s Fellowship Uniting Emerging Leaders, or FUEL program, for the group’s ongoing Community Beautification Program, which provides flowers for the planters located throughout the business district.
Holes in the tournament are sponsored by area businesses that receive incentives for their level of sponsorship support, ranging from a free registration for a four-person team down to a free registration for a single golfer.
All golfers playing in BAD Golf XVII will have the opportunity to win a special prize for a hole-in-one on the par 3 Sixth hole at Five Island Golf Course. Any golfer who records an Ace on the Sixth hole can win $10,000 in cash, with $5,000 cash going to the lucky player and $5,000 going to the chamber. There are also prizes for a hole-in-on on the par-three second and eighth holes. Those prizes include a $500 VISA gift card, or a Kindle Fire HDX or Nike VR5 Covert Irons. All hole-in-one claims must be witnessed, along with signed affidavits. The Hole-in-one prizes may only be won by a pre-registered golfer in the event.
As an added fun game, the FUEL organization will also be on hand on all par-four holes at the course to offer the popular Par 4 Poker Challenge. The best poker hand drawn will split the pot with FUEL.
Registration for the event will get underway at 2:30 p.m. Monday, July 18, with a 3 p.m. shotgun start for the nine-hole, four-person best shot format game. From 5:30 to 6 p.m., the Palo Alto County Cattlemen will be grilling a ribeye steak sandwich dinner for participants. Non-golfers are also invited to attend the ribeye steak sandwich dinner for a small fee.
The original BAD Golf outing began back in 1999 as a way of bringing business people and area residents together for an afternoon of fellowship and has grown into a very popular activity of the Emmetsburg Chamber of Commerce. Proceeds from the event got to the Chamber’s yearly Community Beautification efforts.
If you need to practice your putting, chipping or excuses, or just want to go out and have a fun round of golf, just be BAD on July 18. To sign up your four-person teams or to sponsor a hole, contact the Emmetsburg Chamber of Commerce at 712-852-2283. In case of a mid-summer blizzard, low-lying fog bank or other inclement weather, BAD Golf will take place on Thursday, July 21 instead.
