Teaching Pedestrian Safety

By Staff | Jun 23, 2016

PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC is at its height during fair weather months. Jamie Rouse (leading the group) and youngsters from the Emmetsburg Education Center are often out and about with a group that extends from one street corner to the next as they walk an there were even more students ahead of Jamie. This day they were on their way to Legion Field. Some of the youngsters act as crossing guards while the group crosses the street. What’s in the wagon??Precious cargo - a vacated bird’s nest. This is a reminder to motorists that pedestrians have the right-of-way in the crosswalk. With downtown Emmetsburg at the crossroads of Highway 4 and Highway 18, it is important for motorists to watch for and stop for pedestrians as they made their way across the street at these busy intersections. --Jane Whitmore photo
