Brief Meeting For City Council
In a brief Monday night meeting, members of Emmetsburg City Council rezoned property and set a public hearing to vacate and sell a portion of Michigan Street.
Travis Brown and Lance Clark requested a zoning reclassification from Industrial to Commercial on the former SNC property located northeast of the intersection of Airport Road and 17th Street. Brown and Clark plan to construct single family dwellings, which would be a special exception use in the newly zoned Commercial district.
There were no comments at a public hearing and council members voted unanimously on the ordinance to change the zoning. The second and third readings of the ordinance were waived.
Michael Flannegan with Shamrock Recycling Inc. approached the council with a request to vacate and sell the 1000 block of Michigan Street so that he can expand his business. There is no physical street on the property and Flannegan told the council that he has been maintaining the area since he purchased the property in 2001.
The council voted to move forward with vacating the 1000 block of Michigan Street, which includes a public hearing and bid letting.
In other business, the council set a public hearing for April 25 on the proposed Cemetery Trail Project, Phase III. This portion of the trail project will be coordinated with the Five Island Trail (FIT) project as far as when concrete for the trail will be poured. The motion also included publication of notice to bidders for the project.
