Junior Miss, Miss Shamrock Contestants Named

The?official kickoff to the 56th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration in Emmetsburg will take place this Sunday, March 13, with the presentation of the Annual Junior Miss and the Miss Shamrock Pageants. As in past years, the pageant will be held at 3 p.m. in the Emmetsburg High School Auditorium. Kari Mueller is director of the pageants for 2016. The doors at Emmetsburg High School will open at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Little Miss Contestants

A field of 11 young ladies are seeking the title of Little Miss Shamrock for 2016. The reigning Little Miss Shamrock, Allyson Thompson of Mallard, will crown her successor from this group of contestants, who are between the ages of five and eight years of age.

Audrianna VanHeuvelen of Emmetsburg is the eight-year old daughter of Dave and Laura VanHeuvelen. She will sing “Faith Can Move A Mountain” for her talent selection.

Reese Taylor is the eight-year old daughter of Missy Jostand and Robert Taylor of Graettinger. Reese will perform a gymnastic floor routine to “Hard Knock Life” as her talent offering.

Natalie Bunda is the eight-year old daughter of Tim and Joan Bunda of Emmetsburg. Natalie will sing “Happy Girl” in the talent competition.

Addison Hanson is the seven-year old daughter of Jon and Ashley Hanson of Graettinger. Addison will present a Jazz dance solo to “Going Down For Real” in the talent competition.

Rachel Schany is the eight-year old daughter of Jeff and Erin Schany of Emmetsburg. Rachel will present a Lyrical dance to “Skyscraper” as her talent selection.

Harlee Will is the six-year old daughter of Samuel and Melissa Will of Emmetsburg. Harlee will perform a dance routine to “A Different Beat” for her talent offering.

Ryleigh Fay is the five-year old daughter of Tracy Fay of Estherville. Ryleigh will perform a Ballet dance to the selection, “Kerchoo” for her talent presentation.

Lillian Lou Wickman is the five-year old daughter of Jason and MaLinda Wickman of Emmetsburg. She will present a Tumbling routine to the song “Wings” during the talent competition.

Graesha Cody is the eight-year old daughter of Jesse and Jamie Cody of Estherville. Graesha will perform a Jazz Dance to “ABC” for her talent presentation.

Sacha Alesch is the eight-year old daughter of Cody and Teresa Alesch of Emmetsburg. Sacha will perform a vocal solo of “The Little Leprechaun” during the talent portion of the program.

Shea Johnson is the five-year old daughter of Jarad and Christy Johnson of Graettinger. Shea will perform a dance routine to “Giddy On Up” for her talent selection.

Little Lassie Contestants

A field of seven young ladies are seeking the title of Little Lassie for 2016. The reigning Little Lassie, Jenna Joyce of Graettinger, will crown her successor from this group of contestants, who are between the ages of nine and 12 years of age.

Macy Alderson is the 11-year old daughter of Joel and Trish Alderson of Graettinger. Macy will perform a Hip-Hop dance routine to “Here Comes the Mix” as her talent presentation.

Jordyn Rose Luft is the nine-year old daughter of Heather and Dom Sanculi and Jeff and Kristal Luft of Ruthven. Jordyn will present a Lyrical/Gymnastic dance to “Hello” in the talent competition.

Kylie Iverson is the 10-year old daughter of Shannon and Renee Iverson of Emmetsburg. Kylie will present a dance routine to “Grease Lightning” for her talent selection.

Emma Krause is the nine-year old daughter of Moe and Kim Krause of Emmetsburg. Emma will perform a dance routine to “Candy” in the talent competition.

Aliza Woodford is the 12-year old daughter of Eric and Mary Woodford of Emmetsburg. Aliza will play a Violin Solo, “Garotte” as her talent presentation.

Atleigh Cody is the 12-year old daughter of Jesse and Jamie Cody of Estherville. Atleigh will perform a Jazz Dance to “Shake This Room” in the talent competition.

Josie Thompson is the 11-year old daughter of Troy and Nesha Thompson of Spencer. Josie will perform a vocal solo to the song, “My Favorite Things” as her talent presentation.

Irish Miss Contestants

A very competitive field of four teens will vie for the honor of Irish Miss for 2016. The reigning Irish Miss, Abagail Nelson of Belmond, will crown her successor from these contestants, who are between the ages of 13 and 16 years of age.

Hannah VanHeuvelen is the 15-year old daughter of Dave and Laura VanHeuvelen of Emmetsburg. Hannah will perform a vocal solo, “Mama Didn’t Raise No Fool” for her talent selection.

Tatum Iverson is the 13-year old daughter of Shannon and Renee Iverson of Emmetsburg. Tatum will perform a vocal solo, “Invincible” as her talent presentation.

Macy McAllister is the 13-year old daughter of Troy and Brenda McAllister of Emmetsburg. Macy will present a Hip-Hop dance to “Pon De Replay” in the talent competition.

Annie Brennan is the 13-year old daughter of Rick and Diane Brennan of Emmetsburg. Annie will present a vocal solo to “As Long As I Am Singing” for her talent selection.

Miss Shamrock Pageant Contestants

A fixture of the Annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration is the annual Miss Shamrock Pageant, which will take place this Sunday afternoon, March 13, at 3 p.m. The pageant will be held in conjunction with the Little Miss Shamrock pageants in the Emmetsburg High School Auditiorium.

A field of six young women will be competing for the title of Miss Shamrock during the pageant. Competition in the Miss Shamrock Pageant includes an interview with the panel of judges prior to the program and then on-stage introduction in casual wear, a talent performance of the contestant’s choice, an appearance in formal wear and an on-stage question.

The reigning Miss Shamrock 2015, Caroline Fantz, will crown her successor at the conclusion of Sunday’s program

Here is a look at the field of contestants for Miss Shamrock 2016.

Erin Block is the 17 year-old daughter of Dan and Chris Block of Spirit Lake. She has a brother, William and is the granddaughter of Janet Neary and the Late Albert Neary of Emmetsburg. A junior at Spirit Lake High School, Erin is an honor roll student and is a member of IGNITE Leadership Academy and Youth Connect, a tutoring program for elementary students.

At Spirit Lake High School, Erin is involved in many extra-curricular activities including football and wrestling cheerleading, show choir, vocal jazz ensemble, quiz bowl, track, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and dance team. She is on the St. Mary’s Youth Council, youth group, Key Club, and has taken dance lessons for 14 years, with highlights of performances with Ballet Nebraska’s “The Nutcracker”.

Erin enjoys running, writing, scrap-booking, traveling and spending time on the lake. In the summer, she works at Maxwell’s Beach Caf and at Boat House Apparel.

Erin plans to attend Iowa State University and major in English communications or education.

Erin will be performing a vocal solo, “Titanium”, in the talent competition.

Mikayla Matthews is the 17 year-old daughter of Danice Matthews and Scott Matthews of Estherville, Iowa. She has four siblings: Maisey, Monte, Spencer and Efrum. A senior at Graettinger-Terril High School, Mikayla is senior class president, character chair for National Honor Society, a member of the student council, and an honor student. She is very involved in mentoring, and she will receive a graduation community service award for her hours. Mikayla is also involved in school extra-curricular activities including basketball cheerleading, volleyball, choir, speech and musical theater and has auditioned for television’s “The Voice!” but has not qualified so far.

Mikayla plans to attend Kirkwood Community College for two years majoring in human services while studying abroad. She plans to continue her education at a university furthering her education in sociology.

Mikayla will be performing a vocal solo “Hallelujah!” in the talent competition of the pageant.

Kayla Joyce is the 17 year-old daughter of Pat and Tina Joyce of Emmetsburg. She has three siblings: John, Molly and Michael Joyce. A junior at Emmetsburg High School, Kayla is active in show choir, concert choir, jazz choir and the Fall musical and also received a state division I rating on her vocal solo. In addition to singing, Kayla is active in volleyball and basketball, and was a state qualifier in track and field last year. She has served two years on the student council, where she has enjoyed planning the school dances, which have raised $2,400 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and military veterans through dance proceeds.

In the community, Kayla enjoys using her vocal talents while volunteering as a cantor at Holy Family Catholic Church and vocal coaching for young students. She volunteers her free time at Ruthven Care Center, Emmetsburg Catholic School, youth recreation basketball, and the program “Then Feed Just One”.

She enjoys playing sports, piano and singing. In her spare time, Kayla likes to spend time with her family, and one of her favorite pastimes is team bonding with her friends.

Kayla plans to attend college in hopes to receive a bachelor’s degree in special education or elementary teaching.

Kayla will be performing a vocal solo “Soar” for her talent selection.

Lauren Hibben is the 17 year-old daughter of Bob and Joanna Rehm of Graettinger. She has five siblings: Alex, Ashley, Austin, Alana and Kyle Rehm. A senior at Graettinger-Terril High School, Lauren is an honor roll student, and she has received honors for state vocal and band contests.

In the community, Lauren cantors at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and she has participated in Miss Graettinger. She enjoys singing, writing music, reading, studying, and spending time with her family and friends.

Lauren plans to attend University of Iowa to study Computer Science with an emphasis in Cybersecurity.

Lauren will be performing a vocal solo “This is the Moment” in the talent competition.

Kiersten Duhn is the 18 year-old daughter of Marsha Duhn of Emmetsburg and Brian Duhn. She has a sister Rachel and a brother Dennie. A senior at Emmetsburg High School, Kiersten is involved in show choir, dance team, FFA and student council. She was varsity cheer captain this year, and she has served as an officer in FFA. Kiersten is an honor roll student, a three-year recipient of Academic Excellence, honors and a member of National Honor Society the past two years.

Kiersten is active in her church where she volunteers as a bible school leader and Sunday school teacher. She tutors and was active in the program “Then Feed Just One” the past three years.

Kiersten enjoys playing the guitar, singing, dancing, drawing, reading and writing. She plans to attend Iowa State University this fall with an open major.

Kiersten will be performing a vocal solo and accompanying herself on the guitar, “Dancing In The Sky” for her talent presentation.

Alexis Bryant is the 17 year-old daughter of Sarah and Ramon Valetti. She has two sisters: Alisha and Allison and a brother, Levi. A junior at Algona High School, Alexis is an honor roll student and she enjoys participating in large group speech.

Alexis was a member of the North Union Dance Team from 20132015, and she also took part in competition dance and studio dance. Alexis is a certified nurse assistant in addition to being a student.

Alexis plans to attend a four-year college and major in business. She would love to open a dance studio after she receives her education, raise a family and live a happy life.

Alexis will be performing a lyrical dance “Young & Beautiful” in the talent portion of the pageant.

In addition, the reigning Miss Iowa, Taylor Wiebers of Clinton, will appear during the program. Wiebers was crowned Miss Iowa in June of 2015 and will share experiences of her reign as Miss Iowa and discuss her platform, the St. Baldrick’s Foundation: SHAVE, SERVE?and SHARE.
