Emmetsburg Named As Second-Safest Iowa City
One of the best-kept secrets in Emmetsburg is now out in the open! Emmetsburg is the second-safest city in Iowa. The announcement was made late last week by the SafeWise Research website.
The selection of the 15 safest cities in Iowa was based on the FBI’s Crime Report Statistics from 2013. According to the results, Emmetsburg was the second safest city with 0.26 violent crimes and 1.83 property crimes per 1,000 people. Violent crimes included aggravated assault, murder, rape and robbery, while property crimes incluge burglary, arson, laceny-theft and motor vehicle theft.
“The Emmetsburg Police Department and the City of Emmetsburg are very pleased with the results. It takes a whole community and its citizens to make a difference, not just the actions of a police department,” noted Emmetsburg Police Chief Eric Hanson. “Our entire community can take pride in this recognition and know that we all have had an impact on keeping the City of Emmetsburg a safe place to live.”
All cities with fewer than 3,000 residents and those who did not submit a complete crime report to the FBI were eliminated from the study.
The Top 15 Safest Cities in Iowa, as determined by Research website SafeWise sare as follows:
The site reviewed the most recent FBI Crime report statistics and population data and ranked cities with fewer than 3,000 residents.
“From there, we evaluated the remaining cities. We narrowed it down based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) and property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft) in each city,” the site says.
