Downtown Emmetsburg will be aglow with lights as the fourth annual Home For The Holidays Lighted Parade moves down Broadway this Friday night.

Floats are being prepared for third annual event. They will line up on North Broadway and parade south to 14th Street.

Mr. and Mrs. Santa will be riding on the fire truck and Hannah Bird will be singing songs of the season from the Emmetsburg Retail Association float.

Families gather downtown Emmetsburg for this annual event.

Highlights Of The Day

Emmetsburg Retail Association members will kickoff Home For The Holidays weekend with open house events. Participating businesses will host a Soup Stroll from 4 to 6 p.m. Shoppers are invited to stop by and enjoy a bit of soup before heading out for the lighted parade.

A Holiday Open House will be held at the Fire Hall following the parade.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at the Fire Hall, ready to visit with all the boys and girls. Parents are reminded to bring their cameras to capture the event.

Sounds of the season will fill the Fire Hall from Biblical Brass and Beyond. This local group of musicians will be joined by Hannah Bird singing holiday favorites.

Hot chocolate, cookies and popcorn will be served, provided by Emmetsburg Firemen, Knights of Co-lumbus, Emmetsburg Care Center and ERA members.

Prizes will be given, including a large white bear to a lucky child and “A Little Jingle for your Pocket” for a lucky adult.

Pony Express will again be giving rides around the square in a horse-drawn wagon.

Tree and Wreath Auction

New this year is a decorated Tree and Wreath Auction, sponsored by the ERA.

There is still time for teams to decorate a 4-foot tree or 24-inch wreath for the auction. Contact the Chamber Office to reserve a tree or wreath.

Trees will be on display at The Shores. On auction day, Sunday, Dec. 13, there is a 1 p.m. preview and the auction will begin at 2 p.m. at The Shores at Five Island.

Proceeds from the tree and wreath auction will go toward cold weather clothing for local school children in need.
