EHS Dance Team To Compete At State Meet

Emmetsburg High School’s Dance Team will join other high school squads from across the state this week to compete in the 20th Annual Iowa State Dance Team Championships. The event takes place Thursday and Friday, Dec. 3-4, at Wells Fargo Arena and HyVee Hall in Des Moines.

A total of 270 high school dance teams, along with 25 college teams from Iowa colleges will feature over 5000 dancers in the two-day event.

The members of the EHS?dance team are Co- Captains Senior Katie Hoffman and Junior Sarah Pugh, along with seniors Kiersten Duhn and Erin Poeppe. Also on the squad are juniors Allison Freeman and Shelby Loomis, sophomores Natalee Lowe and Rachel Berkland.

Kayla Helget and Jeanie Shimon are the coaches for the Dance Team.

Emmetsburg will perform two routines at the competition. The first will be a pom routine at 8:18 a.m. Thursday to “Ain’t nothing wrong” and the second will be a Jazz routine to the selection “Burnin UP ” at 5:52 p.m.

Both performances will take place in Wells Fargo Auditorium along with 11 teams in the same division of competition.

The Emmetsburg squad will also receive an academic distinction award for achieving an average grade point average of 3.75 or better.

Judges from across the United States will evaluate the groups competing in the event on the basis of appearance, choreography, execution, technique and general effect/showmanship.
