Mental Health Position Discussed By Supervisors
With the upcoming retirement of Maureen Sandberg, Central Point Coordinator and Palo Alto County General Assistance/Mental Health Director in December 2015, Kim Wilson, Director of Northwest Iowa Care Connections visited with the Palo Alto County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, October 13 to discuss several possibilities for filling the position.
“I have been working to try and find ways to have a common denominator throughout the region of the Northwest Iowa Care Connections. It has been made difficult due to the different needs of the eight counties in our region. What is needed in Lyon County is different from Osceola County and they are side by side,” Wilson said.
“Who has the skills to do this type of reorganization?” Supervisor Ed Noon questioned.
” I have a Masters in Mental health and 32 years of experience in Northwest Iowa,” Wilson stated.
Several ideas were presented to the Board to consider. General Assistance could be handed over to a social services organization such as Upper Des Moines, who have indicated that it is a possibility but would like more information, or a person could be hired from Experience Works on a part time basis, or a combination of Experience Works and contracting with the Region on a transaction basis.
However, no decision was made and the subject will remain under study.
