Janie Fricke To Join Country Gold Tour Saturday

By Staff | Oct 8, 2015

Country singer Janie Fricke is set to perform at the Wild Rose Casino in Emmetsburg on Saturday, October 10 as part of the Counrty Gold Tour. She is looking forward to this performance.

When asked what she likes best about performing Fricke had this to say about what makes live performances so appealing to her.

“I think there are a lot of ingredients there and when you roll them all into one, it’s just the excitement. The feeling of coming out and sharing what you have in your heart with people you have never met before and with the audience. It’s an exhilarating feeling to know you are getting to meet a whole new group of people. It’s quite a thrill and an honor and a blessing to be able to share and to have this connection with people,” Fricke explained.

Fricke tries to send out a positive message in all her shows. When she does a regular one-hour show she picks songs that mean a lot to her. She has been doing a lot of positive type songs in her last few albums which she likes doing because they come from the heart.

“When I do the shows in Iowa, it’s a shorter version because there are other acts in the show. We may only get to do four or five songs so I pick important songs from my albums and then try one or two of my most favorite,” Fricke said.

As far as the size of venue, Fricke loves to perform on both large or small. “All venue sizes are interesting. You try and turn a venue no matter what size they are into a personal, one-on-one type show. That’s what I try to achieve during every show,” Fricke commented.

The best piece of advice she got when embarking on her career was from the President of the singers union, who is now a popular music attorney in Nashville. He told her to take a chance and sign the record deal with Columbia Records because the opportunity may never come again. It was at this time she was working as an in-studio back up singer for various artists while the recording company was pursuing her and she was not sure she wanted a singing career of her own. However, she took the advice and the rest is history.

When asked what advice she would have for someone who is trying to break into the music business, Fricke offered this idea. “First of all, you have to have talent. You have to know you have talent and you have to be told by other people you have talent and be sure you know what you are getting into. Secondly, you have to make lots of sacrifices. You don’t get to just stay home with the family and friends, music becomes your own independent world where you are out there on your own. You had better be prepared to be independent. The other thing is you have to be a smart businessperson. It’s not all about fun. You have to learn the business side of it and understand the agreements that you make. Plus you need to conduct yourself in a certain way both on and off stage.”

Beside her singing career, Fricke also has her own home line. She has created her own line of decorative pillows, table runners and throws that she does a lot of the swing on herself or she prepares them, cuts them out and gives them to a lady who sews them for her. She learned sewing form her mother and grandmother when she was growing up in Indiana.

Fricke has a special message for the residents of Emmetsburg and the surrounding area, “I am really looking forward to coming to the area, meeting new people and enjoying the area.”
