Bridge Contracts Approved By Board
Construction contracts for two bridges were approved by the Palo Alto County Board of Supervisors during the board’s weekly meeting on Sept. 29. The Supervisors also gave their approval to a drainage levy for Joint Drainage District 36 during the session.
Chris Towell, Assistant to the County Engineer was on hand to present two contracts awarded to Merryman Bridge Construction of Algona for the replacement of Bridge EB27 on 350 Street in Emmetsburg Township and Bridge WB 77 on 500 Street in West Bend Township.
Towell also presented the required contractor’s bonds to the board, who granted unanimous approval to the contracts along with approving the bonds.
In other secondary roads department business, Towell also presented the supervisors with several partial acquisition contracts for the east section right-of- way on County Road B55 east of Rodman for the upcoming road project.
The supervisors gave unanimous approval to contracts with Joleen Metzer, Darin K. and Amanda J. Banwart, and two separate contracts with Sharon L. Golbuff.
“We are about half done with the acquisitions for this project,” Towell noted.
Palo Alto County Auditor Carmen Moser presented board members with the Joint Drainage District 36 Levy for approval.
“This DD is part of a drainage district that is south of Rush Lake.” Moser said. “The county is being assessed $294,063 for repairs and interest and $5,000 for future repairs for a total charge of $299,063 with a 20 year waiver at five percent interest. Assessed amounts to individual landowners will be due October 1 and will be considered delinquent as of November 1.”
In a unanimous roll call vote, the Supervisors introduced and approved a Resolution for Drainage Assessment for Joint DD 36 Levy.
In other business, the Supervisors unanimously approved two proclamations. October 3 10 is proclaimed as Mental Illness Awareness Week and the month of October is proclaimed as Palo Alto County Disability Employment Awareness Month.
