By Staff | Sep 1, 2015

Every 5 seconds a person dies from hunger or malnutrition.

You can help reduce these numbers by helping pack high quality, nutritious meals!

That is the message being sent to residents of Palo Alto County in anticipation of Then Feed Just One, Palo Alto County Packing Event.

The fourth annual Packing Event is Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Palo Alto County Fairgrounds in Emmetsburg. Register to work a shift by contacting Lois Stanley 712-852-2692 stan prop@iowatelecom.net or Bonnie Whitney 712-852-9160 bonniew@iowatele com.net.

Registration forms are available at Stanley Propane, Woodford Equipment or the Emmetsburg First United Methodist Church. Forms are also available on the Facebook page: Then Feed Just One – Emmetsburg, IA Area.

Teams of residents will work in shifts to package high quality, highly nutritious and tasty meals to send around the world to help fight world hunger.

Shift times are 8 to 9 a.m., 9 to 10 a.m., 10 to 11 a.m. and 11a.m. to 12 noon. Each team member will contribute $30 for the one-hour shift. Cash donations are also accepted.

Emmetsburg hosted its first Then Feed Just One event in 2012. In three years, teams have packed over a quarter-million meals. The goal for 2015 is 75,000 meals.

Then Feed Just One

Then Feed Just One is a not-for-profit corporation out of LeMars. The mobile food packaging program involves teams that packages life saving nutritious meals for starving children and their families in Honduras, Central America.

The name is taken from a quote of Mother Teresa, who once said, “If you cannot feed a hundred people, then just feed one.”

The goal is simple: to help alleviate hunger and malnutrition in the second poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.

The food packaged is used as a base from which the hungry and malnourished can help escape the dire consequences of their daily lives. In cooperation with various organizations in Honduras, the packaged meals will be distributed to the most needy in orphanages, children’s homes, and the general population.

This task is accomplished with the help of Palo Alto County residents. This is an easy way to participate in a mission project and lend a hand without leaving the area. Every meal packaged makes a difference and improves another persons life.

Put together a team and get involved in Then Feed Just One, Palo Alto County Packing Event. Team members are asked to arriv 15 minutes prior to their shift for check-in.

Get a team together and join the group at Palo Alto County Packing Day on Saturday, Sept. 26.
