City Candidates Can File Nomination Petitions Beginning August 24

Candidates for Mayor and City Council can start filing nomination petitions for office next week. The first day to file is Monday, Aug. 24, and the last day to file is Thursday, Sept. 17, before 5 p.m.

Candidates can print nomination petitions off the internet at the Secretary of state website. Nomination petitions available at City Hall and also at the Auditor’s Office.

Due to a change in Iowa law, all nomination petitions must be filed with Carmen Moser, Filing Officer, at the Palo Alto County Auditor’s Office in Emmetsburg.

Mayor and Council positions that will expire at the end of 2015 are:

Emmetsburg: Mayor Myrna Heddinger; Council At-Large, Bill Burdick, Jr.; Ward 2 representative Tony Kauten; Ward 4 representative Corey Gramowski. All serve four year terms. Twenty-five signatures are needed on nomination petitions.

Ayrshire: Mayor Michael Garrelts, two year term; Council persons Jennifer Buettner, Chad Buettner and Leo Brownfield, four year terms. Ten signatures are needed on nomination petitions.

Curlew:?Mayor John Keller; Council persons Catherine Stanek, Brent Cooke, Richard Weig, Dana Igou and Robby Johnson. All serve two year terms. Five signatures are needed on nomination petitions.

Cylinder:?Mayor Arnold C. Heng; Council persons Kurt J. Bonnstetter, Harry Bormann, Beth Elman, Kevin D. Long and Sarah Bonnstetter. All serve two year terms. Five signatures are needed on nomination petitions.

Graettinger: Mayor Monty Schany, two year term; Council persons, Daniel Skattebo and Chris McGrauth, four year terms. Ten signatures are needed on nomination petitions.

Mallard: Mayor James Gehrt; Council persons Glenn Simonsen and Troy Auten. All serve four year terms. Ten signatures are needed on nomination petitions.

Rodman: Mayor Jean Hyslop; Council persons Danny Hutchison, Mark Besch, Rose Merideth, Ronald Thilges and Sean Leners. All serve two year terms. Five signatures are needed on nomination petitions.

Ruthven: Mayor David Kirk, two year term; Council persons Justin Henningsen and David Forey. Dustin Johnson was appointed to fill a vacancy and that term expires in 2015. Council serves four year terms. Ten signatures are needed on nomination petitions.

West Bend: Mayor Marilyn Schutz, two year term; Council persons Paul Lauck, Susan Traub and Joseph Montag. Grant Gearhart was appointed to fill a vacancy until the next election, which is 2015. Council serves four year terms. Ten signatures are needed on nomination petitions.
