Hillcrest Golf and Country Club Celebrates Milestone
GRAETTINGER — The Graettinger Hillcrest Golf and Country Club is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
In 1975 a group of area residents sold shares to members around the area and the Hillcrest Golf and Country Club came to life.
For the past 40 years the course has developed into a great nine hole course that offers a variety of challenges to golfers. It is a course that appeals to all levels of players. The clubhouse has been developed into a full scale restaurant bar establishment and has been leased by managers over the past 40 years.
Currently the manger is Estherville native Barry Bonner and his wife Shantelle. They offer a wide variety on their menu including burgers, steaks, seafood, pasta, pork, and Mexican dishes. They typically have specials every weekend that are not on their regular menu and have featured Prime Rib, ribs, elk, and other assorted entrees.
The golf course is a 9 hole course that has nice sized greens in great condition, watered fairways, lots of trees, a pond, sand trap, and several other hazards scattered throughout the course.
The Hillcrest has women’s league on Tuesday night, and men’s league on both Wednesday and Thursday. Open golf is available daily. Golf carts are also available to rent. The Hillcrest Golf course also promotes no trail fees for those who want to bring their own carts.
The Hillcrest board has planned a celebration at the golf course in commemoration of this milestone by hosting a variety of activities. This event is going to take place on this Saturday, Aug. 22. The day will feature open golf to the public and a special horse race golf tournament. A live auction of donated items startd at 5 p.m., with a silent auction of items going on all day, Karaoke starting around 9 p.m. and food and drinks all day.
If anyone would like to donate new items to the auction they can drop them off at Bank Plus in Graettinger or at the golf course. They can also contact Jeff Buechler at 712-480-0150 and he will make arrangements to pick them out.
Other activities for the day are also being considered. Everyone is invited to come to Graettinger this Saturday for a day full of fun and help celebrate 40 years of golf in Graettinger.
