Arrest Made Following Spray Plane Shooting
A Whittemore man has been arrested in connection with a shooting incident on July 31.
According to Palo Alto County Sheriff Lynn Schultes, John Dale Metzger, 55, of Whittemore, was arrested at 5:55 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7 pursuant to valid Palo Alto County warrants for Terrorism, a Class B Felony; Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon, a Class C Felony; Stalking with a Dangerous Weapon, a Class D Felony and Going Armed With Intent, a Class D Felony.
The charges stemmed from an incident on July 31 in which the Sheriff’s Office investigated a complaint of a aerial spray plane being shot at with a firearm in Independence Township. In the incident, an aerial spray plane owned by Steier Ag Aviation of Whittemore as struck in the wing flap by a bullet. The pilot of the aircraft was able to land safely following the incident.
Following the incident, officers from the Palo Alto and Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Algona Police Department conducted a search of a residence in Independence Township. Items seized in the search are currently undergoing analysis. The Federal Bureau of Investigation also assisted in the search.
John Dale Metzger was arrested and transported without incident on Friday to the Palo Alto County Jail. Metzger was unable to post the required bail on the charges, which totalled $25,000 cash or an approved surety bond. He was booked into the Palo Alto County Jail to await an initial appearance before a magistrate.
