Shooting Incident Prompts Search Of Rural Residence
An incident in Fairfield Township July 31 resulted in a search of a residence by the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office, Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, Algona Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
According to Palo Alto County Sheriff Lynn Schultes, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was contacted at 10:25 a.m. Friday, July 31, in regards to an individual shooting at an aerial spray plane owned by Steier Ag Aviation of Whittemore, while it was conducting routine spraying of a field in Palo Alto County. Upon further investigation into the report, it was determined that the incident took place in the south west corner of section 25 of Fairfield Township while the spray plane was spraying a farm field. The plane was struck on the right wing flap by a bullet but was able to return to the landing strip and land safely.
During the investigation, a suspect was determined and a search warrant was obtained for a property located at 5719 390 Street. Several items were seized from the property during the search, and are in the process of being analyzed. No arrests have been made in the case at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office is being assisted in the investigation by special agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, along with the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office and Algona Police Department.
