Curbside Recycling Service Not Interrupted

With the recent announcement from Horizons Unlimited that they will discontinue its recycling program effective Jan. 1, 2016, Emmetsburg residents have questions about their curbside recycling.

Curbside Recycling in Emmetsburg is picked up by Shamrock Recycling.

“Shamrock Recycling is a privately owned business and Horizons Unlimited’s decision to pull out of recycling will not affect us,” said Mike Flannegan, owner of Shamrock Recycling. “Shamrock will continue to provide curbside services to residents in Emmetsburg, as well as our commercial customers.”

Flannegan continued, “We currently provide recycling services for 16 communities over five counties, with processing facilities in Spirit Lake and Emmetsburg.”

Residents who participate in the recycling service help reduce garbage pickup and help the environment.

Curbside recycling in Emmetsburg is picked up:?North of Highway 18 on the first and third Wednesdays; South of Highway 18 on the first and third Thursdays.

Recycling services offered by Shamrock Recycling include curbside and dropbox collection commercial collection, as well as process and baling of recyclable products.

“Any individual residents, communities or commercial customers that are affected by Horizons decision are encouraged to contact Shamrock Recycling for pricing of services,” said Flannegan.

Shamrock’s other offerings include:?demolition of buildings and homes, landfill disposal, as well as rolloffs for construction and site cleanup. They also grind wood and tree stumps for products such as bedding, compost, mulch and biofuels.
