School Board Election Filing Period Opens This Monday
Even though summer has just begun, it’s time to begin thinking about school board elections. Monday, July 6 is the first day candidates may official file nomination papers for the upcoming School Board elections in the state of Iowa. Palo Alto County’s four school districts will all have contests on their respective ballots for the September 8 School Board elections.
In Emmetsburg, four seats on the Emmetsburg Community School District’s Board of Directors will be on the ballot, as the seats of Kathleen Roethler, BJ Schany, Rick Brennan and Scott Kibbie are all up for election. To officially be nominated, a candidate’s petition in the Emmetsburg School District must contain the signatures of 34 eligible electors.
The Ruthven-Ayrshire Community School District also has four seats up for election. Those positions are held by Larry J. Conlon, Tracy Enderson, Katie Meyer and Ray Grandstaff. To officially be nominated, a candidate’s petition in the Ruthven-Ayrshire School District must contain the signatures of 11 eligible electors.
The West Bend-Mallard Community School District will also have four seats on the board up for election, with those positions currently being held by John Zaugg, Dawn Schmidt, Mark Collins and Dr. Jillian Hansen are all up for election this year. To officially be nominated, a candidate’s petition in the West Bend-Mallard School District must contain the signatures of 15 eligible electors.
The Graettinger-Terril Community School Board will feature three seats up for election. Those seats are currently held by Kevin Jensen, Roger Schmitt and Galen Chicoine. To officially be nominated, a candidate’s petition in the Graettinger-Terril School District must contain the signatures of 17 eligible electors.
Persons interested in running for a school board seat must obtain nomination papers, which are available from their local school district board secretary. The last day to file nomination papers is 5:00 p.m. July 30,
