PALO ALTO COUNTY RELAY FOR LIFE -- Saturday was a beautiful day for Relay for Life in Soper Park, along the shores of Five Island Lake. The sun brightened the day as survivors, care givers and friends walked laps around the park. Opening ceremonies began at 6:30 p.m. with survivors leading the way. Pictured with the banner are 2015 Honorary Survivor Jean Long, Louise Leuer, Mary Parsons and Elaine Sidle (pictured, from the left). A large group of survivors walked along with caregivers and the Parade of Relay for Life teams. Events began in the afternoon with a large group of performers, photo booth, volleyball and bags tournaments, and face painting. The evening included a “bead lap” with walkers collecting strings of beads as they walked the route. One Layne Band provided entertainment for the evening. Luminaries were lighted at dusk, lighting the way around Soper Park. When organizers get the final tally of funds raised to support the fight against cancer, that amount will be announced. --Jane Whitmore photo
