Palo Alto County Garden Club

Palo Alto County Garden Club met at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at the Iowa Lakes Community College Community Room with Mary Weiland, Rosie Argabright, and Sharon Hobart hosting.

President Kay Kerber reported that the roses and gardens at the Victorian House were being watered during the dry spell and heat. A thank you note was read from Eric Sundall for the Outstanding Flower and Vegetable Medallion he received at the Palo Alto County Fair.

Mary Weiland gave the tip of the month on Periwinkle or Vinca, its uses and where and how it is best cultivated. Vinca adds color and is easy to grow in gardens.

Palo Alto County Garden Club will host the Sixth District Meeting next spring with a date of May 1, 2014. May baskets were made following the business meeting. The committee will meet and decide where and what to serve for the meeting.

The next meeting will be held on September 10, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. at the Lost Island Nature Center with Alice Ann Underwood, Nancy Hunsaker, and Merrylea Clasing hosting. The program will be given by Miriam Patton.
