GROWING HEALTHY KIDS -- Grant funds provided through Palo Alto County Gaming Development Corporation are being used to purchase items such as diapers, wipes, car seats, cribs and books for the Growing Healthy Kids program administered by Palo Alto County Community Health. Skip Wallace, representing PACGDC, Peg Martini, program assistant at Upper Des Moines Opportunity, Lloyd Petersen, representing PACGDC, and Sarah Strohman, RN, Palo Alto County Community Health, are pictured (from the left) in The Stork’s Closet at the Upper Des Moines Outreach Center in Emmetsburg. PACGDC, Wild Rose Casino, Kiwanis of Emmetsburg, area churches and individuals contribute items for The Stork’s Closet. Through the Growing Healthy Kids program, parents of small children earn points by attending childbirth education classes, and scheduling doctor visits, in-home nurses visits, immunizations and car seat checkups. Points are then redeemable for products in The Stork’s Closet at Upper Des Moines. --Jane Whitmore photo
