Veterans On Honor Flight To D.C.

By Staff | Jun 27, 2013

Don Wichman of Emmetsburg and Bernard Brown of West Bend will be part of the Brushy Creek Area Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. this fall, according to Terry Chamberlain, Commander of VFW Post #2295 based in Emmetsburg.

“We have just a short period of time to raise funds to send these Palo Alto County veterans on the Honor Flight,” said Chamberlain. “We are seeking donations to raise $1,200; that’s $600 per veteran. Truly, any amount helps.”

Donations can be sent to Post Commander Terry Chamberlain at 1903 Lawler, Emmetsburg, IA 50536; or call Chamberlain at 712-298-0883. Funds must be raised by July 6.

Don Wichman is a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Army.

Between May 2010 and September 2011, five Brushy Creek Area Honor Flights were taken to Washington, D.C. These flights were successful in serving over 500 World War II Veterans and 300 guardians. Volunteers and visitors at the memorials treated the veterans fabulously and honored them as the heroes they truly are.

Now, the Brushy Creek Area Honor Flights are reorganizing in hopes of taking a few Honor Flights to honor Korean War Veterans. The next flight is Sept. 19 out of Fort Dodge.
