Palo Alto County Homecoming Celebrations

Students at West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Bradgate are celebrating Homecoming this week of Sept. 17-21 with a variety of daily events and activities that will culminate with the Homecoming Football game Friday, Sept. 21, against North Iowa.

The Homecoming events begin on Monday with a different theme each day, building to Thursday’s coronation of the Homecoming Queen and King.

Nominated to the Homecoming court for 2012 are Queen candidates Meredith Collins, daughter of Mark and Becky Collins, McKenzie Grimm, daughter of Lee Ann Grimm and Mike Grimm, Kayla Banwart, daughter of Kent and Beth Banwart, Kaylee Lanus, daughter of Larry and Deb Lanus and Courtney Bargman, daughter of Jay and Julie Bargman. King candidates are Ashton Fehr, son of Darren and Nora Fehr, Dustin Johnson, son of Clyde and Bridgette Johnson, Dan Eubank, son of Rajean and Ernie Eldridge, Kurt Banwart, son of Kent and Beth Banwart and Aaron Montag, son of Frank and Carla Montag.

Serving as the class attendants are Juniors Brady Jenson and Katharina Peters, Sophomores Sam Frieden and Kylie Wirtz and Freshmen Corey Goeders and Felicia Fehr.

The week’s activities began with Crazy Day on Monday, where crazy attire was the rule of the day. Tuesday is Baby/Elderly Day, where your best infants or grandparents attire will be seen in the hallways of the school. Volleyball will be featured that evening as the Lady Wolverines play Harris-Lake Park.

Wednesday will be Opposite Gender Day, where students will dress as their opposite gender. A two-hour early dismissal is planned on Wednesday to allow students to decorate golf carts, hallways and work on their skits for the following evening’s coronation ceremonies.

Thursday, Sept. 20, is Class Color Day at WBM/GBC. Each class will wear their designated colors, with Seniors wearing black, Juniors wearing white, Sophomores wearing blue and Freshmen wearing red. The morning will feature the annual Homecoming games, including Powder Puff football at 9 a.m. and Mighty Man volleyball at 10 a.m., with Dodgeball at 11;30 A.M. and the Tug-o’War at 12:30 p.m., along with the Student Council games. Students will be dismissed at 1:35 to conclude decorating and practice for the coronation. At 5 p.m., the Homecoming Parade will take place with the Athletic Booster supper following the parade in the high school cafeteria. The benefit uniform auction will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the high school gym followed by introduction of the homecoming court and class skits at 7 p.m. The Coronation will follow with Liesel Schwartzkopf serving as Mistress of Ceremonies.

It will be Purple and Gold Day on Friday as Wolverines fans don their purple and gold to cheer on the Wolverines. A pep rally is planned for 2:55 p.m. The Homecoming game will kickoff at 7 p.m. as the Wolverines host the Bison of North Iowa to wrap up Homecoming 2012.
