North Iowa Tractor Ride To Travel Through Palo Alto County
The 2012 edition of the Palo Alto County Fair will provide a great backdrop for the North Iowa Tractor Ride, which will start Friday morning, July 20, from the Palo Alto County Fairgrounds. North Iowa Broadcasting and KISS 98.7 Country of Mason City are sponsoring the event.
This will be the first visit of the North Iowa Tractor Ride to Palo Alto County, as previous rides have traversed the north central part of the state. Organizers of the event expect from 150 to 200 tractors and their operators to participate in the event.
The ride itself will begin to form on Thursday, July 19, as the participants and their tractors converge on the Palo Alto County Fairgrounds. The tractors will be parked on the fairgrounds during the afternoon and evening hours and will be available for the public to view. Many of the ride participants will be on hand to visit with the public about their tractors as well.
As part of the Thursday activities of the ride, a meeting for the tractor ride participants will be conducted at 6 p.m. on the Fairgrounds in the Open Air Pavilion. At that time, organizers from KISS Country will review information for the ride participants and answer and questions that might arise. The tractors will remain parked on the fairgrounds overnight.
Friday morning will dawn with the actual tractor ride beginning at 7:15 a.m. The tractors will be dispatched in four groups, based on speed of the tractors, with the last group scheduled to leave the fairgrounds around 8:30 p.m. As the tractors leave the fairgrounds on 21st Street, they will travel east to Lawler Street and head north, passing both the Emmetsburg Care Center and Lakeside Lutheran Home as they leave Emmetsburg and head north on county road N40. Traveling north on N40, the tractors will turn at the Jack Creek Corner and proceed east on county road B14 to the intersection with county road N60, where they will turn north on their way to Ringsted for a mid-morning break.
After leaving Ringsted, the riders will continue cross-country, passing through the Ingham and High Lake areas before stopping in Estherville for lunch. After lunch, the riders will proceed out of Estherville to head for Spirit Lake for their overnight stop at the Dickinson County Fairgrounds.
On Saturday, July 21, the riders will leave Spirit Lake and will travel southeasterly to Terril, where they will head east to county road N26 and then south to county road B14, where they will turn east and proceed into Graettinger for a lunch stop at the Immaculate Conception Church. After lunch, the riders will head east out of Graettinger on county road B14 and turn south at the Jack Creek Corner to return to Emmetsburg on county road N40, and then Lawler Street back to the fairgrounds to conclude a 119.2 mile ride. A wrap-up meeting on the fairgrounds is planned for 2:45 p.m. on Saturday afternoon to bring the event to a close.
Sponsors for the North Iowa Tractor Ride include Auto Edge, Manufacturer’s Bank and Trust, PetroBlend, Wold Tire Service, Young Construction, AgVantage FS, Fox Auction Company, King Construction and Holland Contracting.
