CPT Justin Thornburg Graduates Special Forces Training

CPT Justin Thornburg of Emmetsburg graduated the Special Forces Qualification Course (SFQC) on June 28, at Fort Bragg, NC. SFQC is the formal training program for entry into the United States Army Special Forces. Justin’s training as an 18A (Detachment Commander) was a 95-week program that qualifies him to lead a Special Forces Operational Detachment-Alpha (OD-A).

Ceremonies were held at Ft. Bragg, where Justin’s family members were in attendance. He was one of 120 SFQC graduates.

Justin, the son of Dennis Thornburg of Emmetsburg, is a 1999 graduate of Emmetsburg High School. Justin and his brother, Jordan Thornburg, are both captains in the U.S. Army.

Justin’s previous military schools include Airborne, Air Assault, Ranger, Infantry Officer Basic Course, Maneuver Captains Career Course, Survival Evasion Resistance Escape (SERE) and Sniper Employment Leader’s Course. Justin’s deployment experience includes a 15-month tour with 1st BN 503rd INF Reg, 173rd Airborne BDE in Afghanistan where he received a Combat Infantryman Badge, Bronze Star and Army Commendation Medal with Valor.

Justin currently resides in Fayetteville, NC, where he continues training at Ft. Bragg.
