Emmetsburg celebrated Independence Day with several family friendly activities on a hot and steamy Fourth of July. The morning opened with kids’ games and a sand volleyball tournament in Soper Park. At 1 p.m., the Emmetsburg Municipal Band played their final concert of the season, featuring a wide variety of popular and patriotic tunes. Emmetsburg Mayor Myrna Heddinger spoke, members of VFW Post #2295 offered a 21-gun salute, and “Taps” was played in honor of our veterans. Various food stands set up at Soper Park. The evening was capped off with live music and the traditional display of fireworks over Five Island Lake.
