Hollywood Actress Featured At 2012 Senior Fun & Wellness Day

By Staff | Apr 24, 2012

A famous Hollywood actress from the 1970s will be the featured speaker at this year’s Senior Fun and Wellness Day in Emmetsburg. Marcia Wallace may not be an easily recognizable name, but whom she portrayed in “The Bob Newhart Show” is a memorable character. Wallace was best known as Carol Kester, the fun-loving secretary at the medical suite where Newhart portrayed a psychologist and Peter Bonerz played Jerry Robinson, an orthodontist. She may also be remembered as a semi-regular on “The Match Game.”

Anyone should be able to relate to Wallace. Humor has gotten her through several adversities. Her keynote message, as well as her autobiography, is titled “Don’t Look Back, We’re Not Going That Way.” She says this autobiography is how she overcame a rocky childhood, a nervous breakdown, breast cancer, widowhood, fat fire and menopausal motherhood and still managed to count her “lucky chickens.”

Senior Fun and Wellness Day features a day of activities, health screenings, workshops and entertainment for anyone age 50 and better. This is the 25th year of the event, which is held at Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg on Wednesday, May 16. Doors open at 7:45 a.m. for registration, continental breakfast, and display booths. Presentations begin at 8:45 a.m.

Sessions range from Gardening to Riverboat Cruises. There will be sessions on: Genealogy, Chair Exercises, Iowa Trivia, Digital Photobooks, Health and Wellness, Veterans Affairs, E-Readers, ‘The Calories are Right’, a Mission Trip to New Orleans, and more.

Harn Soper will share his experiences in organic farming and how that has translated into a new business for Emmetsburg.

The day will wrap-up with a fun look at how hypnotism can help individuals relax and energize. Kathy Heng, certified hypnotist, will present the program.
