Seussical the Musical Jr. On Main Street Stage

“Seussical the Musical, Jr.” will feature a cast of 51 young actors and singers on the Emmetsburg Main Street Community Theatre stage this spring.

Students in first through eighth grades from Emmetsburg, Ruthven, Graettinger, Whittemore and Algona auditioned for parts in the student, musical production.

“We are really looking forward to working with this talented group of students,” said directors Jackie VanOosbree and Peggy Stolley.

“Seussical the Musical, Jr.” introduces characters from several Dr. Seuss stories. The Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz and Yertle the Turtle are some of the well-known characters.

Principal characters, in order of appearance on stage, are: Phoenix Campbell as Jojo, Olivia Gordon as the Cat in the Hat, Nick Grandstaff as Horton, Colton Johnson as Mr. Mayor, Madison Schnetzer as Mrs. Mayor, Chloe Garman as Gertie, Avery Ringlaben as Mayzie, Jordan Lange as the Sour Kangaroo and Tatum Iverson as the Young Kangaroo. The Wickersham Brothers are played by Keagan Barrett, Robert Nielson, Eli Reichert, Chris VanHeuvelen, Wayne Barrett, Joel Chuning and Luke Matthews. Yertle the Turtle is played by Hunter Cother.

The Bird Girl soloists and featured singers are Madison Schnetzer, Hunter Cother, Mary Nelson, Alison Merrill, Jordan Foxhoven, Alyssa Pettit, Hannah VanHeuvelen and Hannah Malm.

Citizens of Whoville and members of the chorus are Quentin Ort, Abby Kauten, Shantel Engeman, Hannah Adams, Marie Trewin, Ashlynn Cother, Katie Nelson, Emma Foxhoven, Hailey Foxhoven, Drew Sidles, Macy Alderson, Maggie Nelson, Jack Ringlaben, Zach Foxhoven, Kendra Hill, Brynna Ludwig, Jose Alcala, Jade Garman, Bryar Olson, Josh VanHeuvelen, Tamra Trewin, Ryan Merrill, Adrienne Chuning, Adriana Alcala, Lily Ringlaben, Amelia Ort, Taylor VanHeuvelen and Jacklyn Radvansky.

In the story of “Seussical the Musical, Jr.” Horton the Elephant hears a Who on a speck of dust. Everyone thinks Horton is imagining it, but he is defended by Gertrude, the one-feathered tail bird. Horton is nice enough to sit on Mayzie’s nest after the Wickersham Brothers steal his clover. Then, Horton is captured by hunters, sold to the circus and eventually put on trial.

Production dates for “Seussical the Musical, Jr.” are June 1, 2 and 3, and June 8, 9 and 10 at the Emmetsburg Main Street Community Theatre Perfor- mance Center.
