Tom Leonard, a lifelong resident of Palo Alto County, has announced his candidacy for the Palo Alto County 5th District Supervisor position for the upcoming 2012 Primary Election to be held June 5. He will run on the Democrat ticket.

Leonard was born and raised on a farm west of Emmetsburg. He graduated from Emmetsburg Catholic High School in 1963. He worked at Palo Alto Manufacturing (Pamline) in Emmetsburg from 1963 until 1982, when the business closed.

In 1983, Leonard began his career with the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Department. He retired in August, 2007. At the time of his retirement, Leonard had served the people of Palo Alto County for 24 years, the last 16 years as Chief Deputy.

As a candidate, Leonard stated his goals are to work on economic development to retain existing jobs and to attract new business to the area.

“Having worked for the Sheriff’s Department for 24 years, I am very familiar with all parts of Palo Alto County,” said Leonard. “I look forward to serving the people in the 5th District.”

Tom and his wife, Sue, are parents of four adult children and proud grandparents of nine grandchildren.

“I would appreciate your support and your vote in the upcoming Primary Election on June 5, 2012,” said Leonard.
