A sure sign of the approaching Spring is the annual celebration of Emmetsburg’s Irish heritage. St. Patrick’s Celebration in Emmetsburg will shift into high gear on Friday evening with the 50th Annual Miss Shamrock Pageant. The Golden Anniversary pageant is set for Friday, March 16, at 7 p.m. in the Emmetsburg High School Auditorium. A field of seven area young women have hopes of winning the coveted Miss Shamrock crown during the event.

Special guest at the 2012 Miss Shamrock pageant will be Jessica Pray, the reigning Miss Iowa, who will perform during the evening, along with the retiring Miss Shamrock 2011, Chelsey Rouse, who will crown her successor at the conclusion of the evening’s program. Kevin Tlam of Lite 104.9 in Spencer will serve as the Master of Ceremonies for the evening’s ceremonies.

Competition in the Miss Shamrock Pageant includes a private interview with a panel of judges that takes place prior to the evening program. Each of the contestants is judged as they are introduced to the audience at the pageant during the on-stage introduction in casual wear, a talent performance of the contestant’s choice, an appearance on stage in formal wear and their answer to an on-stage question.
