Whitney Named UDMO Executive Director
M. Whitney has been hired as the Executive Director of Upper Des Moines Opportunity, Inc. He will begin Monday, Jan. 23.
“Whitney was selected from a field of well qualified local and national respondents,” said Douglas Bailey, Upper Des Moines Opportunity Board President. “His talents and prior experiences are a good fit for Upper Des Moines Opportunity, our current services and the directions we want to explore.”
The UDMO Board of Directors conducted a three-month search and selection process to hire a new Executive Director. Whitney, an Iowa native, will move from Girard, KS, to begin his new assignment.
Whitney has an MSW degree and, until this hiring, served as adjunct professor of Social Policy Analysis at Pittsburg State University (KS) and the assistant director of development at Neosho County Community College.
Bailey said Whitney’s 20 years of key management experience, his roles in planning and his prior anti-poverty program and community development work at community action agencies in Iowa and Kansas will enable him to quickly transition into the local agency. He is a certified national trainer for the community action network’s Results Outcome Management Accountability system. In addition to having been an assistant Head Start program director and director of an Early Head Start program, Whitney served nine years as a national consultant to federal agencies to review and assess local Head Start programs. Upper Des Moines Opportunity, Inc. operates Heat Start in eight of the agency’s service area counties.
Upper Des Moines Opportunity, Inc., a private non-profit organization based in Graettinger, has provided services to individuals and families and children in 12 northwest and north central Iowa counties for 46 years. UDMO is the official Community Action Agency for its 12 county service area. More information about UDMO can be found on the organization’s web site www.udmo.com.
