ESTHERVILLE – A new Executive Dean has been named at the Estherville campus of Iowa Lakes Community College. Scott Stokes was selected from a field of six finalists, including both internal and external applicants. He currently serves as the Registrar for Iowa Lakes, a position he has held for six years.

Stokes has been active on several college committees, involving academic policies and curriculum. He has participated on the enrollment management team and an advising for success group. He has an extensive background of student needs and issues as well as knowledge related to the entire college and its academic standards.

“This position offers me the chance to continue to work with the outstanding faculty and staff of the Estherville campus,” Stokes said. “I’m thankful to work with such a good group of dedicated individuals, collegewide, who have established some great initiatives, which I will continue to support as Executive Dean.”

Stokes is a member of the Estherville Public Library Board, has represented the college at community events, and has participated in and assisted at foundation scholarship events in the area. He wants to expand upon his local involvement.

“I look forward to building on the positive relationships which the college has with the community,” Stokes said. “I want to work with members of the advisory committees of the Estherville campus to help serve their needs for continued growth in local business and industry.”

Stokes continued, “I feel very fortunate to live in such a great community. It’s a great place to live and raise a family.”

Valerie Newhouse, President of Iowa Lakes, credited Stokes with a proven track record and an exemplary work ethic.

“Scott is a visionary and a problem solver,” President Newhouse said. “While serving as Registrar, he investigated options for the future and guided Iowa Lakes to first go paperless with its academic catalog and then to invest in a system where records are electronically scanned, thus making student information available to all campuses simultaneously.”

Stokes has worked with all five college campuses and has a good understanding of the college.

“He relates well to staff from diverse backgrounds and can bring them together to help move the college forward,” Newhouse said. “Scott has demonstrated an ability to customize our college software to help streamline processes for all our staff. He represents the college in a positive manner to students, employees, visitors, and the community.”

Previously, Stokes worked at Iowa Lakes as the housing manager, intramurals coordinator, and as assistant men’s basketball coach. He earned a master of science degree in education leadership in 2005 from Southwest Minnesota State University, bachelor’s degree in math in 2003 from the University of Northern Iowa, and an associate in arts degree from Iowa Lakes in 2000.

The Trustees of Iowa Lakes will officially accept Stokes as the Executive Dean at their Jan. 17 meeting. He will begin transitioning into the Executive Dean position after Jan. 1.
