Ribbon Cutting Planned For College Facility In Emmetsburg

By Staff | Nov 17, 2011

Area residents are welcome to attend an open house and ribbon cutting set for Friday, Nov. 18, for the new Construction Technology facility at the Emmetsburg campus of Iowa Lakes Community College.

The open house begins at 9:30 a.m. The ribbon cutting will start around 9:45 a.m. in conjunction with the Emmetsburg Chamber Coffee. Refreshments will be served.

The nearly 11,000 square foot technology center was designed on the needs of the Construction Technology curriculum and suggestions from the program’s advisory board. It features two interactive classrooms, a lab for students to experience hands-on installation of cabinetry as well as finishing skills, a large laboratory space for pre-construction work (which doubles as an indoor facility for equipment and vehicles), and office space for instructors.

The facility was built to the specifications of ‘green’ buildings with high efficiency insulation, geothermal heating, and cooling.

Speaking at the ceremony will be Board of Trustees Vice President Pat Kibbie, College President Valerie Newhouse, instructor Corey Menning, graduate Ryan Brandenburg, Facilities Management Executive Director Delaine Hiney, Henningsen Construction representative John Engstler, and Executive Dean Tom Brotherton.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend the open house. The Construction Technology building is located on the southwest portion of the Emmetsburg campus near the west housing units.
